Home ownership trends for every budget: Kitchen project

Whether the funds available for your kitchen renovation are limited or plentiful, there are attractive and functional options for every budget. That's the view of Stéphanie Keller Mattile, and – as Managing Director of the kitchen manufacturer Kurt Keller AG – she should know. In this video interview, the professional and experienced kitchen planner has lots of helpful tips and examples of what a kitchen renovation or installation might look like in various budget categories.

New kitchen for a small budget (CHF 15,000 to 20,000)

A limited budget doesn't mean having to forget about style and functionality. With the right advice, any style can be achieved within any budget. If your budget is between CHF 15,000 and 20,000, however, it's advisable to stick to simple designs such as Scandinavian or minimalist style. These styles are not only timeless and beautiful but can also be easily adapted or expanded later through a sympathetic renovation, for example by replacing the handles. A lot can be achieved with handles and colors. Laminated fronts, artificial worktops, and plastic handles are cost-effective, yet durable and visually high-quality. Laminate and artificial stone offer an attractive and cost-effective solution for work surfaces. In terms of appliances you can use standard models from reliable brands, while looking out for offers and promotions in order to save more money. Popular modern appliances such as a combi-steamer or induction hob now come as part of a standard package at a competitive price.

New kitchen for a medium budget (CHF 20,000 to 45,000):

A medium budget of CHF 20,000 to 45,000 gives you more scope to incorporate individuality into your kitchen design. That means you could go for a rustic or industrial-chic style, for example – both of which are somewhat more expensive to achieve due to their specification – without having to compromise. Lacquered MDF fronts, anti-fingerprint materials, and higher-quality handles made of stainless steel or aluminum are suitable options. Handleless drawers or the latest gadgets such as boiling and sparkling water taps are also included in this budget category. In this price range you can choose worktops made from very high-quality materials such as natural quartz composite and solid wood. Both materials are very durable and esthetically pleasing. When it comes to electrical appliances, a larger budget enables functionality and esthetics to be combined. For example, you can use integrated or higher-quality branded models that can be elegantly incorporated into the kitchen.

New kitchen for a large budget (over CHF 45,000):

A budget of over CHF 45,000 means there are no limits or compromises. Love luxurious, custom-made designs? In this budget category you can have a free rein and choose the kitchen style that reflects your personal taste. Solid wood fronts, scratch-resistant solid chrome steel covers, glass fronts, and even concrete fronts are all a possibility. Hand-painted handles or handle variants made from exclusive materials such as brass or even crystal make every kitchen a unique eye-catcher. As for work surfaces, you can choose natural stone such as granite, marble, or even stainless steel for a luxurious and unique look. There are numerous technical twists: push-to-open drawers, integrated coffee machines and wine cabinets, cooktop extractor systems, double-door refrigerators, and electrically adjustable work surfaces – there are no limits to your imagination. Premium brands surpass themselves each year with innovative kitchen appliances and the latest kitchen technology.
